Meet Your Coaches

Josh Layland Coach

Josh Layland is an experienced rock climber with a passion for instruction and personal development, both in the gym and at the crag. Having previously earned the Climbing Wall Instructor certification during his time working at UCF, Josh works to shape instructional programming at Blue Swan Boulders and guide new instructors through new material as it emerges. Josh’s favorite style of climbing is both sport and trad climbing, as long as it brings him to new heights. As a coach, Josh’s goal is to provide climbers with technical ‘tools’ for their ‘toolbelt’, and to help climbers notice their weaknesses and turn them into training objectives.

Josh Layland

“I think my favorite part of teaching in climbing is helping others through those little moments where something brand new just clicks, and a move sticks. It’s through intentional, thoughtful climbing that these moments are possible, and I’m happy to help anyone push their training to a new level.”

Private Coach Sam Harden

Sam Harden started climbing in 2015, and in 2021 started as one of our youth coaches. She loves to help guide personal development in her lessons, along with whatever goals her climbers have as well. One of Sam’s biggest goals while coaching is to help climbers build goal-setting and other transferable skills while finding their rhythm in climbing. Her favorite things to do outside of climbing are poetry, dance, and finding a good place to nap.

Sam Harden

“One of my focuses is working with climbers to build up their independence in climbing and other transferable skills while creating fun, memorable experiences. I love how much climbing teaches us about ourselves, and how that journey in getting to know yourself better can look different for everyone.”

Hannah Yore Private Coach

Hannah Yore began climbing after being a competitive gymnast for over 10 years. Her love for competition, and the motivation to get stronger mentally and physically has driven her climbing philosophy and training. Most of her personal climbing experience is in indoor and outdoor bouldering, and competition climbing. She is continually motivated by the knowledge surrounding training and coaching philosophies and enjoys dedicating time to learning about the different training and coaching perspectives that many elite climbers, coaches, and any other climbers share.

Hannah Yore

“I believe that coaching should be tailored to the individual athlete’s wants and needs, such as breaking through plateaus, sending certain climbs, improving general fitness, competition climbing, and/or mental training.  I believe that learning the fundamentals will help the athlete develop their own style and strengths, and as a coach I would love to help with any step along that journey.”
